ABOUT
Guide X Trekking Poles
Finally got a chance to use them. Well made, stable and the attachments work great.
I'm 6'4" 250 lbs and recovering from ACL replacement 6 months ago, I've had real bad experiences with other poles collapsing under my full weight. So a friend let me borrow his and these poles didn't collapse once with full weight on them. Finality got my own pair, amazing!
These trekking poles performed great in Wrangle Mountains Alaska. Saved my butt many times.
I got these and the adapter for the center pole of the tent. They worked great, super stable. Nice and light. Would recommend.
I love the design of having threading in the handles to allow them to be attached together to serve as a tent center pole or tarp shelter pole. I love that the threading is the same pattern as Vortex's opics adapters which allows one pole to be turned into a very quick, easy, and lightweight option for glassing. I love that there's also a shooting stick adapter for the same reason. My only gripes:
- For the price ($165 is a LOT for trekking poles IMO), the adapter to allow them to be threaded together should be included and should not be $20 more.
- The poles wobble/rattle noticeably more than my $80 REI Trailmade aluminum poles when hiking on rough terrain. Granted, the Argali's are substantially lighter, but at $165, my standards are higher.
- I'm sure part of the reason these are $165 is the hybrid aluminum/carbon construction. In my opinion, with the carbonX poles already existing, this is unnecessary. These should just be aluminum and be cheaper.
