After sitting out some Wyoming hunting seasons, Andrew Jakovac finally returns to the mountains in pursuit of a mature mule deer.

In the winter following the 2022 season, more than 17,000 mule deer died across Wyoming, devastating much of the state's wild range population. Andrew made the decision to step away from hunting Wyoming until the population had time to recover.

Months of summer scouting went into finding a buck worthy of the hunt. But knowing where the bucks live and actually getting within bow range are two very different things.

What follows is a hunt filled with blown stalks, other hunters, missed opportunities, frustration, and a lot of miles on foot. Through it all, Andrew relies on years of experience, persistence, and the lessons earned through countless seasons in the mountains.

This is the story of a Wyoming mule deer hunt, years in the making, and a buck that was worth every mile.
